On June 21, 2024, Taroko Express Train No. 299 collided with falling rocks at 4:50 p.m. in the section between Hezhong and Chongde due to recent heavy rain causing loose soil and rocks. The driver was injured with a broken bone, and passengers had to disembark and walk in darkness. Taiwan Rail has set up a first-level response team and arranged for 525 passengers on the train to transfer back to Chongde Station and Xincheng Station using Train No. 4033. Currently, traffic between Hezhong and Chongde operates on a single line in both directions.
