Taiwan Rail Explains Causes of Derailment Due to Massive Debris Covering Tracks After Collision with Landslide

Reported about 1 year ago

Taiwan Rail's 229th EMU3000 Puyuma train derailed on June 21st after colliding with a landslide. The company revealed that a large amount of debris from the creek overflowed onto the tracks, causing the derailment, rather than a rockfall. Following this incident, Taiwan Rail plans to enhance monitoring in collaboration with the meteorological agency and install additional warning systems to prevent similar accidents. The accident resulted in the train operator sustaining a hand fracture and eight passengers with minor injuries, with ongoing support provided for the injured individuals.
