Taiwan Rail Express Train Derails Due to Flooding, Not Rockfall Disaster; Alert System to be Improved

Reported 8 months ago

A Taiwan Rail Express Train, No. 229, derailed yesterday due to flooding, not a rockfall disaster, causing injuries to the train conductor and 8 passengers. The railway company clarified that heavy rainfall upstream caused an overflow of soil and rocks, impacting the tracks and leading to the derailment. They plan to enhance coordination with river management units and meteorological agencies, as well as increase the alert system to prevent similar accidents in the future. Repair works are underway to resume full operations on the affected route soon.
