According to CTWANT Weekly, the Taiwan Rail Express Train 229 derailed in the Hualien Qingshui Tunnel on the evening of June 21 after hitting falling rocks, causing the 51-year-old driver, named Chen, to suffer a hand fracture, and 8 passengers to be injured. The driver underwent surgery at 2 AM and was transferred to a general ward. The incident occurred at 4:50 PM on the previous day, with emergency services promptly evacuating the injured to hospitals. The Taiwan Rail Union confirmed the driver's good performance and provided compensation, expecting a month of recovery for him. The company outlined plans to enhance safety measures at disaster-prone locations, particularly after recent natural disasters in the region.
