A Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) train derailed on June 21st, 2024, in Hualien's Xiulin Township due to mudslides covering the tracks, resulting in injuries to the driver and 8 passengers. Families of the victims from the Taroko Express tragedy three years ago expressed concerns over the lack of a robust warning system, ongoing safety reform challenges, and emphasized that TRA cannot afford to relax its safety standards. They highlighted the need for continuous safety improvements and urged for concerted efforts from TRA and the transportation authorities for a safer railway system in Taiwan.
