Taiwan Railways Train 229 derailed in Hualien after colliding with a landslide, but the site was cleared for two-way traffic by noon on June 22nd. The Ministry of Transportation and Taiwan Railways issued apologies for the incident and proposed enhanced protective measures. The incident was caused by a large landside from the Da Chingshui River underneath the tracks. In response, temporary speed restrictions of 30 km/h and slight delays of 5-10 minutes were implemented between Chongde and Heping on the Western Main Line. The government will also enhance monitoring and surveillance on vulnerable sections to prevent future accidents.
