On June 26, 2024, at 6:35 am, a Taiwan Railway EMU 3000 Express, during its journey from Chongde to Horen, collided with falling rocks inside the Qingshui Tunnel, injuring 9 people. It was revealed that a surveillance camera had captured the rockfall 19 minutes before the accident, but no one reported it. The Hualien District Prosecutors Office has initiated an investigation to determine if there was human error involved. Internal sources disclosed that despite severe weather warnings and rising water levels at the river, the monitoring station failed to take action. The incident is under scrutiny to clarify responsibilities and potential criminal charges.
