Taiwan Railway's New Taroko Express, Costing 800 Million NTD, Derailed After Colliding with Landslide Just 3 Months in Service

On June 21, 2024, a Taiwan Railway EMU3000 type new Taroko Express on train number 229 derailed after hitting a landslide, causing 3 train cars to derail. The train, imported from Japan, cost about 800 million NTD with less than 3 months of service. Repair parts need to be shipped from Japan, so repairs may take some time. The incident occurred between the Chongde and Hsuehjen sections. Damage included misaligned car doors and broken couplers.
