On June 21, 2024, at 7:25 am, Taiwan Railway's new Taroko Express Train No. 229 was hit by a landslide while traveling on the Hualien Chongde-Hehuan Route, resulting in injuries to the driver and 6 passengers. Passengers had to disembark and walk through the muddy train tracks. The train suffered damages and was stuck inside the Qingshui Tunnel. The incident occurred due to falling rocks for unknown reasons in Xiuzheling, causing injuries to 6 passengers and 1 driver. Recent images show the aftermath where passengers, under umbrellas, slowly disembark from the damaged train, revealing train track damages and possibly train debris. The passengers had to cautiously navigate through the mud to leave the scene.
