On June 22, 2024, at 1:13 am, a Taiwan Railway train collided with rocks and soil, raising concerns about the ineffectiveness of the alarm system. Taiwan Railway explained that the West Main Line, where the incident occurred, has a cliff tunnel that prevents direct impact on trains from falling rocks, so no alarm system was installed. However, due to lower soil barriers at the tunnel entrance, the train derailed in this accident caused by a landslide. Experts suggest long-term slope restoration and possible route relocation to prevent similar accidents.
