On June 21, 2024, at 4:50 pm, Taiwan Railways' Taroko Express train 229 derailed between Chongde and Hejin due to a rockslide caused by heavy rain leading to a displacement in the tracks, stranding the train in a tunnel. The train operator suffered a hand fracture, and six passengers sustained minor injuries. Taiwan Railways has since completed repairs between Hejin and Chongde on the west mainline as of 1:47 PM on June 22 and resumed train services after ensuring safety. Trains in the area are operating at reduced speed and may experience delays of 5 to 10 minutes. Taiwan Railways apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the incident.
