CTWANT Weekly | Web Editing Group 6:35 AM, June 20, 2024. Regarding the possible fare increase by Taiwan Railways, Minister Lee Meng-yen reiterated that ticket prices have not been adjusted for 29 years, and many prices are significantly low, exemplified by the single trip fare for the commute from Taipei to Banqiao being only NT$15, much cheaper than the bus's NT$30 and MRT's NT$25. Minister Lee mentioned that the potential increase will reflect a reasonable cost adjustment for better quality, including punctuality and service quality. The proposed fare increase is estimated to be between 35.62% to 44.52%, with fares for specific routes set to rise accordingly. Minister Lee also noted that the final fare adjustment plan from Taiwan Railways is still under development and will be subject to review by the Ministry of Transportation's fare review committee to ensure the best decision considering various factors.
