Taiwan Railways' new Tze-Chiang Express experienced a derailment incident yesterday, resulting in 9 injuries. In response, Taiwan Railway's Chairman Du Wei announced plans to extend the Hualien tunnel on the western line and convert the eastern line entirely into tunnels, with the addition of warning systems. These two projects totaling 700 million are expected to be completed by the end of next year. The incident location was prone to rockfall risks, prompting the railway to implement safety measures such as installing rockfall warning systems and the construction of the Hualien tunnel. Despite some system limitations, the transportation department plans to enhance monitoring and response capabilities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
