On June 22, 2024, Taiwan Railways' 229th train (EMU3000-type Taroko Express) derailed and collided with a landslide on the western segment of the Hualien-Herren Railway Line, injuring 9 people. Premier Su Tseng-chang apologized for not acting quickly enough and has instructed Taiwan Railways to thoroughly inspect and strengthen the warning monitoring system to prevent similar incidents. He stated the need for faster efforts in addressing the situation. The incident has prompted improvements in monitoring systems and safety measures along the affected railway route.
