On June 21st, Taiwan Railways' 229 train of the new Taroko Express derailed due to a mudslide on the North-link line, injuring 9 people and raising concerns about train safety. Following this incident, the transportation minister, Li Meng-yan, has instructed various measures to address risks, including installing mudslide alert systems and CCTV for manual monitoring. Other actions include evaluating high-risk areas for mudslides and implementing necessary safety measures promptly. The focus is on ensuring railway safety in the eastern part of Taiwan, particularly in areas prone to rockfalls and mudslides.
