The Global Peace Index for 2024 was recently released, with Taiwan ranking 43rd in the list of 163 countries, behind Japan (17th) and slightly ahead of South Korea (46th), while China ranked jointly at 88th with Cyprus. The Index, compiled by the Institute for Economics and Peace, assesses countries based on factors like security, domestic and international conflicts, and military expenditures. The report also highlighted that global peace deteriorated for the fifth consecutive year, with 65 countries improving and 97 countries declining in rankings. Iceland has topped the list as the most peaceful country since 2008, while Yemen ranked as the least peaceful among the 163 countries assessed.
