The 2024 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook reveals that Taiwan has slipped two places to rank 8th out of 67 evaluated countries/regions, still surpassing the US, China, Japan, and South Korea. Taiwan's decline is attributed to weakened global demand affecting the manufacturing sector. Despite the drop, Taiwan remains at the top globally among economies with over 20 million population for the fourth consecutive year. The report categorizes competitiveness into four indicators: enterprise efficiency, government efficiency, infrastructure, and economic performance.
