According to the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2024 published by IMD on June 17, 2024, Taiwan slipped two spots to rank 8th among 67 evaluated countries/regions this year, due to global demand weakness impacting the manufacturing sector. Despite the drop, Taiwan maintained its lead over the US, China, Japan, and South Korea. Taiwan continues to hold the top spot among economies with over 20 million people for the fourth consecutive year. The report assesses competitiveness in four indicators: business efficiency, government efficiency, infrastructure, and economic performance. Taiwan excelled in infrastructure but saw declines in economic performance, business efficiency, and government efficiency.
