Taiwan's representative to the United States, Yu Gao-Zhang, was recently accused of falsely reporting expenses, misusing public funds, and sparking concern among government officials. The Presidential Office and the Executive Yuan are looking into the matter, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that purchases for the official residence exceeded eight million New Taiwan dollars within half a year, including expensive items reported under the name of former representative Xiao Mei-Qin. The Ministry emphasized the necessity of the purchases due to aging or damaged furniture, as well as the need to host official guests. Various lawmakers have called for transparency and investigation into these allegations.
