Taiwan's Blue Camp Proposes Raising Law for Recall Votes, to be Reviewed Next Thursday in the Interior Committee

Reported 9 months ago

Facing potential recall movements by the Green Camp against Blue Camp legislators, the Kuomintang has responded by proposing to raise the threshold for recalls. The Legislative Yuan's Interior Committee is scheduled to hold a public hearing next Wednesday, July 3, and then promptly review the 'Public Officials Election and Recall Act' on Thursday, July 4, to increase the recall threshold. The Democratic Progressive Party and civil organizations are brewing a recall campaign against Blue Camp legislators, with the process potentially facing changes before the end of the current legislative session. Currently, the recall threshold requires approval from over one-fourth of the total electorate in the original election district, leading to increased recall proposals and scrutiny over the appropriateness of this threshold.
