Taiwan's new Defense Minister, Gu Li-hsiung, will oversee the first Han Kuang military exercise without a safety frame known as the 'firing oblong' to simulate real combat conditions and improve accuracy in target calculation, aiming for a more authentic training experience. The exercise, set to commence in mid-July, will also eliminate the role-playing aspect, emphasizing tactical positions and command relationships for soldiers. The U.S.-led biennial Rim of the Pacific Exercise has also commenced with 29 countries participating, including the task of sinking a 40,000-ton target ship.
