According to FTNN News on June 16, 2024, rumors circulated that the drones produced by Taiwan's research institute under the Ministry of National Defense were 'deaf and blind', leading to the need for US intervention for the submarine project. Defense Minister Gu Li-hsiung confirmed that he is overseeing the institute, evaluating its performance periodically. If the projects do not meet standards and can be outsourced, they will be terminated. The institute's drones for the army reportedly cost 770 million NTD, yet lacked crucial features like real-time transmission of data, leading to inefficiencies. The Defense Ministry eventually turned to US companies for the submarine combat system after the institute's impractical proposals wasted time.
