On June 14, 2024, DPP Secretary-General Lin Yu-chang led a team to Hualien for the first 'Anti-Authoritarianism, Defend Democracy' forum, starting at the Hualien City God Temple to pray for blessings amid post-disaster impacts. This move to the temple, historically associated with the Kuomintang, was seen as directly challenging Fu Kun-chi, a KMT lawmaker who spent 206 days in jail and then visited the temple. Lin expressed the importance of discussions in Taiwan's democracy and aimed to educate people on parliamentary expansion laws to ensure societal understanding and support for Hualien's recovery efforts.
