Taiwan's Electricity Hindered by Anti-Nuclear Stance? TSMC Chairperson Morris Chang: Green Energy with Nuclear Power Could Grow 4 to 5 Times

Reported 9 months ago

During the 2024 National Policy Forum, TSMC Chairperson Morris Chang suggested that green energy should be complemented with nuclear power due to the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources. He argued that Taiwan's environment may not sustain without this combination and pointed out Taiwan's poor carbon reduction ranking globally. Chang emphasized the need to revise Taiwan's energy policy, which has been hindered by the anti-nuclear stance from the past, proposing a mix of 30% green energy, 30% nuclear power, and 40% thermal power, potentially transitioning to hydrogen energy in the future to avoid ecological damage to oceans and farmland.
