The Criminal Investigation Bureau in Kaohsiung reported seizing 28 pots of an unknown plant, later identified as the class 3 drug Mexican Salvia, marking one of Taiwan's first cases involving a large quantity of live plants. The father and his 21-year-old son were arrested on charges of violating drug regulations and gun control laws, as the police also discovered homemade firearms and ammunition. Mexican Salvia is classified as a newly emerging class 3 drug, with these individuals creating an elaborate indoor greenhouse to cultivate the plants.
