Taiwan's Legislative Yuan and Control Yuan Submit Constitutional Interpretation Requests, Setting Record

Reported 12 months ago

The Control Yuan, represented by Director of the Investigative Bureau Yang Chang-hsien and lawyer Li Yuan-te, submitted requests for constitutional interpretation and interim measures to the Constitutional Court today. Following the implementation of the parliamentary reform law on June 26, the DPP legislative caucus, Executive Yuan, and President successively applied for constitutional scrutiny and interim measures. By doing so, the Control Yuan joined the record of four branches requesting constitutional interpretation on a single issue. Secretary-General Li Chun-yi stated that the legislative amendments, expanding the investigation's scope, encroach upon the Control Yuan's core constitutional powers. This has raised concerns over the potential unconstitutionality of the related provisions.
