Taiwan's Ministry of Agriculture Hopes to Change 'Long-lasting Fresh Milk' to 'Long-lasting Milk'

Reported 7 months ago

The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) recently announced that dairy products with a shelf life of more than thirty days should be labeled as 'long-lasting fresh milk,' sparking opposition from the dairy industry. The Ministry of Agriculture hopes to correct this to 'long-lasting milk.' As the Taiwan-New Zealand Economic Cooperation Agreement is set to take effect soon, concerns arise over the impact of zero-tariff imports of New Zealand milk on local dairy farmers. The MOHW states it will continue to collect public opinions until August 4, and will evaluate in consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture. Meanwhile, lawmakers stress the need for clear labeling differentiating long-lasting milk from fresh milk for market segmentation.
