On July 2, 2024, at 9:42 a.m., Chairman of Caixin Media Xie Jinhe was impersonated in a scam, with a real estate tycoon falling victim. The tycoon, surnamed Li, with assets exceeding billions in Taipei, was convinced by a scam group to invest a staggering NT$170 million, marking the highest financial loss in Taiwan's history of fake investment fraud. Last week, police launched a search operation, arresting 12 suspects, including Feng Shunchong, and transferring them to the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office for investigation. Li received an investment stock message claiming to be from financial expert Xie Jinhe, whom he knew. Believing the promises of guaranteed profit, Li deposited the funds into the fraudulent scheme through an app. Despite seeing apparent gains on his investments, Li never received any returns and realized he was scammed, leading to his cooperation with the police in apprehending the fraudsters.
