Taiwan's Mount Trash: 100 Temporary Waste Sites with a Total of 840,000 Tons

Reported 11 months ago

Greenpeace reported at least one hundred temporary waste sites across Taiwan, with sixty located less than two kilometers from schools and eight near water source protection areas. As of the end of last year, the total amount of waste in temporary storage, as calculated by the Ministry of Environment, reached 840,000 tons, scattered across Taiwan. Some of these waste mountains have reached heights of two to three stories, emitting foul odors, and have become an eyesore in Taiwan's skyline. The Environmental Bureau expects it will take twelve more years to fully process all the waste. Issues with waste management and pollution, especially near areas like the Hsinchu Science Park, pose health risks and environmental threats to nearby communities.
