Taiwan's New Minister of Economic Affairs Flip-Flops on Nuclear Power Extension, Now Stating Current Capacity Sufficient

Reported about 1 year ago

During a legislative questioning session, Taiwan's new Minister of Economic Affairs, Guo Zhihui, initially suggested extending the lifespans of the country's nuclear power plants, only to backtrack later on claiming the goal of a non-nuclear homeland remains unchanged and that green energy is entirely adequate. Guo clarified that the current base load power generation capacity can meet customer demands, hence nuclear power is not under consideration at the moment due to existing laws, despite some lawmakers pushing for legislative amendments to allow for nuclear power backup. This has sparked debates within the parliament.
