Reported 5 months ago

Taiwan's new science and technology minister, Wu Cheng-wen, expressed confidence in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s ability to safeguard its advanced chip technology as it expands overseas. Despite concerns about Taiwanese technology moving abroad, Wu believes TSMC can maintain the secrecy of its advanced technology while setting up factories in the US, Japan, and Europe. The minister aims to ensure that TSMC retains key research and development functions in Taiwan while complying with regulations and expanding internationally amid global efforts to secure semiconductor supplies. Additionally, Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council, led by Wu, is engaging in tech diplomacy to enhance collaborations with friendly nations like the US, Germany, France, and Canada, focusing on areas such as AI, quantum computing, and chip development.
