In an effort to address the domestic labor shortage issue, Taiwan and India have signed a labor service MOU. The agreement has passed the initial review at the legislative committees without the need for party negotiations and will proceed to a full parliamentary review. Additionally, resolutions were passed requiring the Ministry of Labor to establish a dedicated agency to promote government-to-government direct hiring, specify the ratios for direct hiring, and submit a written report within 3 months on the planned trial program for direct hiring methods. Concerns were raised about the potential return to reliance on labor brokers despite the dual-track approach of intermediaries and direct hiring, prompting proposals for specific units to be set up to streamline the direct hiring process and protect the rights of Indian migrant workers.
