Minister of Transportation Li Meng-Yan responded to concerns about the high cost of domestic hotel stays in Taiwan, which have led some to prefer traveling to Japan. With China still not allowing mainland tourists to visit Taiwan and vice versa, the domestic tourism market has been significantly impacted. Minister Li mentioned that efforts are being made to attract international tourists from Southeast and Northeast Asia to make up for the absence of mainland Chinese tourists, aiming for 10 million international tourists this year. The Minister also discussed the disparity in travel openness between China and Taiwan, pointing out that Taiwan is gradually progressing towards full opening if goodwill is shown by China.
