Taiwan Seeks to Become Global Pioneering in Legislation of 'Plant Health Practitioner'

Reported 8 months ago

Premier Su Tseng-chang announced in a Cabinet meeting on June 21, 2024, the proposal to legislate the 'Plant Health Practitioner Law,' aiming for Taiwan to be the first in the world to establish a special law for plant health practitioners. This new law is intended to enhance plant protection standards, manage high-risk pesticide use, and provide plant health services by establishing a professional system for plant health practitioners. If the law is passed through all three readings in the Legislative Yuan, it will set a global precedent. The Ministry of Agriculture highlighted the obligations of plant health practitioners, such as timely reporting of harmful organisms and disease prevention measures. The law also aims to reduce chemical pesticide risks, ensure food safety, and strengthen Taiwan's agricultural resilience towards sustainable development.
