On June 17, 2024, the construction site of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s CoWoS advanced packaging plant in Chiayi Science Park discovered what appears to be relics. Following the discovery, construction was temporarily halted in accordance with the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act. The Chiayi County government indicated that the site was temporarily shut down as per the law. In response, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. stated that they are cooperating with regulatory authorities to proceed with the necessary procedures. The construction of the P1 plant was paused at the Chiayi CoWoS factory after suspected relics were found during geological drilling in May. The Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration stated that they would assist Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and proceed with the construction of a second advanced packaging plant to minimize delays.
