Due to the establishment of Taiwan Semiconductor's Kumamoto factory in Kyushu, Japan, nearby department stores are increasing their stock of high-priced wines, designer handbags, and other luxury goods, aiming to attract semiconductor industry executives with high purchasing power in various ways. The Kumamoto Prefecture Chamber of Commerce chairman, also the chairman of Tsuruya department store, praised TSMC's wafer factory project as a 'dawn since the Meiji Restoration.' Department stores have seen a rise in sales of high-end products, with about 40% of foreign customers being Taiwanese and the sales of duty-free goods doubling compared to the same period last year.
