Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation Chairman Cheng Wen-tsang Accused of Corruption, Taoyuan Prosecutors Request Detention and Communication Ban

On July 5, 2024, Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation Chairman and former Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsang was suspected of involvement in corruption and was summoned by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office yesterday. After questioning, the prosecutors confirmed suspicions of Cheng Wen-tsang violating Article 5, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 3 of the Anti-Corruption Act, arresting him for alleged bribery in the course of duty, and requested detention and communication ban to the court, with a detention hearing scheduled for 11 am. Cheng, through his lawyer, denied any wrongdoing, expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigation, and hoped to clarify the truth promptly to prove innocence.
