Taiwan to Add 'Occupational Safety Chapter' to Firefighting Law, Prioritizing Budget Allocation for Equipment

Reported about 1 year ago

On June 13th, the Executive Yuan is set to approve a proposed amendment to the Fire Services Act by the Ministry of the Interior, incorporating the 'Occupational Safety Chapter' advocated by grassroots firefighting organizations. The amendment stipulates the establishment of specialized units within fire departments to handle safety and health matters, and mandates all levels of government to prioritize budget allocation for firefighting personnel equipment. Key points of the occupational safety chapter revision include the creation of a Central Safety and Health Advisory Council to propose policies, as well as the establishment of dedicated units and personnel at all levels of firefighting agencies. Penalties ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$300,000 will be imposed on firefighting agencies for non-compliance with safety and health regulations, and volunteer firefighters will be provided with necessary safety facilities and equipment, with incident investigation records to be kept in case of accidents. General welfare matters for firefighting personnel will continue to be covered by existing laws and regulations.
