Taiwan to Decommission Nuclear Plant 3 and Extend Mai-Liao Power Plant License: Wang Hung-Wei States Additional 30 Billion Yearly Cost to Public, Reliance on Polluting Coal-Fired Power Generation

Reported 8 months ago

Due to the Democratic Progressive Party's anti-nuclear stance, Taiwan faces an energy crisis, with rising electricity prices and frequent blackouts. Nuclear Plant 3 will decommission its Unit 1 in July, while the Ministry of Economic Affairs extends the license of Mai-Liao Power Plant. Kuomintang legislator Wang Hung-Wei criticizes the situation, pointing out the increased burden of 30 billion annually to switch to coal or private electricity generation and the environmental and health impacts of extending a polluting power plant's license.
