The Ministry of Labor in Taiwan announced plans to revise regulations in September to conditionally ease the assessment criteria under the Barthel Index Scale for individuals above 80 years old. The new criteria would include those with long-term medical records, irreversible specific medical conditions, and patients receiving long-term medical care in remote areas, benefiting an estimated 55,000 people. The Ministry aims to prevent resource allocation issues and maintain fairness in caregiving by considering irreversible medical conditions in the assessment process, rather than solely relying on age or specific illnesses like cancer.
