Middle Taiwan University recruited Ugandan students but subjected them to overwork, violating human trafficking prevention laws. The former vice president was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison, along with other officials receiving heavier sentences. The court found that the officials misled students by promising scholarships and work opportunities, exploiting them for labor. Another official was convicted for benefiting from not penalizing companies hiring Ugandan students, leading to a total of 7 to 2 years in prison with fines imposed. The court also ordered the recovery of illicit gains from certain individuals involved.
