In the opening game of the women's division of the Jones Cup, Taiwan's national basketball team suffered a devastating 46-97 loss to Japan. Head Coach Chiu Chi-yi, in his first time coaching the team in the Jones Cup, expressed shock at the margin of defeat, attributing it to lack of training and team cohesion. Despite players' efforts, Taiwan shot only 27% from the field, committed 30 turnovers, and struggled against Japan's defense. Only player Han Ya-en scored double digits with 13 points, as Japan's Moena Guantanamo led with 17 points in a balanced scoring effort across their team.
