On June 27, 2024, Taiwanese actress Shu Qi was announced as a new member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, marking her inclusion as an Oscars judge. Having already served as a judge at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2008, Cannes Film Festival in 2009, and Venice Film Festival in 2023, Shu Qi becomes the first Taiwanese actress to achieve a 'Grand Slam' of serving as a judge at the three major European film festivals. She now joins the ranks of only three Asian actresses, including Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi, to achieve this feat. The new Academy member list also includes other notable Asian talents and Hollywood figures.
