On June 19, 2024, the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology conducted a live-fire test of the Sky Bow III air defense missile at the Peng Park Base in Pingtung, Taiwan. Amid the escalating threat from Chinese J-20 stealth fighters and continuous challenges to Taiwan's airspace defense, the Taiwanese Air Force granted a contract worth 83.88 billion NT dollars to the institute for a 12-year systematic testing project. While the details of the weapon system are undisclosed, it is speculated to focus on improving the performance and lifespan of the Sky Bow 1 and 2 missiles, rather than testing the Sky Bow 3. This extensive testing aims to enhance Taiwan's air defense capabilities, particularly against threats like the J-20.
