Taiwanese and Hong Kongers March in Taipei to Advocate for Hong Kong on 5th Anniversary of Anti-Extradition Movement

Reported 11 months ago

On June 9th, 2024, Taiwanese and Hong Kongers in Taipei took to the streets with banners proclaiming 'Defend Democracy, Taiwan-Hong Kong Allies' to mark the 5th anniversary of the Hong Kong anti-extradition movement. The march aimed to raise awareness about the situation in Hong Kong, with the Hong Kong Border Youth Secretary General emphasizing the importance of conveying a unified voice. Despite a decrease in participation, attributed in part to Hong Kong's national security laws, Hong Kong tourists in Taiwan also joined the march to exercise their right to protest. The event also highlighted recent convictions of pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong and featured performances by a Hong Kong artist portraying the Statue of Liberty as a symbol of hope for Taiwan amidst Chinese threats.
