Taiwan is experiencing a severe childhood obesity problem, which not only affects physical health but may also lead to early puberty and stunted growth. One out of every three school children in Taiwan is either overweight or obese, with imbalanced nutrition, lack of exercise, and prolonged sitting being key factors. A 6-year-old boy exhibiting obesity and acne issues was found to have a bone age of 11 years, a typical sign of early puberty, possibly leading to premature fusion of growth plates. Medical professionals attribute modern children's early puberty to environmental hormones, plasticizers, excessive nutrition, obesity, and stress, with obesity being a clear cause. It is recommended that parents focus on balanced diet, moderate exercise, and weight control to reduce the risk of early puberty. Efforts are being made by Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare to promote nutrition and exercise in schools through health education interventions and curriculum adjustments.
