Taiwanese City Councillor Lin Yi-Ting's father and Nantou District Fishermen's Association Director Lin Shih-Chieh was ambushed and shot to death with dual firearms upon leaving his home on the morning of July 8th. After half an hour of rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead. Minister of Justice Tseng Ming-Chin attaches great importance to the case and has instructed the Supreme Prosecutors Office to oversee Nantou District Prosecutors Office in swiftly clarifying the facts, conducting a rapid and thorough investigation, and tracing the mastermind to reassure the public. Lin Shih-Chieh was shot three times, all fatal shots, before the shooter fled the scene. In addition to Minister of Justice Tseng Ming-Chin's concerns, Prosecutor-General Hsing Tai-Chao has also ordered the Nantou District Prosecutors Office to collaborate with Nantou City Government Police Bureau to create a special task force to focus efforts and intensively capture the suspects and uncover the truth. The Supreme Prosecutors Office has called on the shooter and relevant defendants to surrender themselves promptly. Witnesses will be protected under the Witness Protection Law, and their identity may be kept confidential or their penalties reduced; other informants are urged to come forward to assist the investigation according to the law. The Supreme Prosecutors Office also appeals to the public to provide information related to this case to aid judicial officers in swiftly arresting the perpetrators, clarifying the facts, and maintaining social order.
