On June 20, 2024, Taiwan Television News reported that the Criminal Investigation Bureau busted a decade-long insurance fraud case involving Mr. Chou, who, along with his wife's family, schemed to defraud multiple insurance companies. The couple staged nearly a thousand minor accidents, pretending to buy self-paid medicines but purchasing expensive items like bird's nests and ganoderma. They filed for actual reimbursement, obtaining over 50 million NT dollars through fraudulent claims. The couple invested a significant portion in gold bars and led a lavish lifestyle, despite being unemployed for over a decade. Their scheme involved making fake claims for injuries sustained on the metro and buses, with 61 policies being suspicious for lack of injuries. Authorities plan to revise insurance regulations to prevent this type of fraud further.
