Taiwanese city councilor Lin Yanzhu raised suspicions that two crematoriums in Tainan might have sold and pocketed valuable metals from deceased individuals, including false teeth, prosthetics, and heart stents. The Anti-Corruption Commission has initiated an investigation into the matter. The Civil Affairs Department emphasized that there are regulations in place for handling post-cremation residues and will conduct random checks to prevent misconduct. Concerns were raised regarding the cremation facilities profiting from selling items like stainless steel and rare metal alloys, potentially earning millions of Taiwan dollars every half year. Measures are being reinforced to ensure proper handling and disclosure of valuable metals found in the remains of the deceased.
