Taiwanese Diver Faces Humiliating Body Search by Palau Customs Officials

Reported 9 months ago

A Taiwanese woman, Ms. Li, and her friends planned to go diving in Palau, a diplomatic ally of Taiwan, but were mistreated by local customs officials, leading to tears at the airport. Despite having no issues with their passports or luggage, Ms. Li was taken into a closed room, forced to undress, and even subjected to a humiliating body search, including being told to open her private parts for inspection. Angered and humiliated, she questioned why Taiwanese citizens were treated this way in Palau, a country without Taiwanese drug trafficking. Taiwanese embassy staff in Palau promptly looked into the situation, attributing the increased security measures to a previous incident involving a Chinese national trying to smuggle drugs in their private parts. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that Taiwanese citizens facing emergencies or discrimination in Palau can seek assistance from the Taiwanese embassy within the confines of local laws.
